Lurking on Twitter and Facebook has its benefits, especially on late nights. Last night, as I was trying to fall asleep in front of the computer, PowerMac Center—the official Apple distributor in the Philippines—tweeted that the second generation iPad is coming to the Philippines in two days. That means tomorrow, April 29, 2011.
I guess Apple likes to keep its [potential] customers surprised even if, barely a month after its US launch, the iPad 2 is no surprise anymore, especially to people like me who ogle at it from their computer screens on an almost daily basis.
Not only was this unexpected because Apple does not usually announce product launches that happen within two days; the first-generation iPad actually reached Philippine shores almost a year after its launch in the US.
But the catch is, PowerMac Centers in the country may carry limited stocks of the coveted gadget as Japan’s industries haven’t fully recovered yet from the March tsunami, leaving a huge backlog in the supply of the iPad 2 that has caused lower-than-expected sales within its first month.
Meanwhile, I’m keeping my fingers crossed I can get my hands on a white iPad 2 before May ends, while another one I know scrambles to dispose of his barely-a-month-old first-generation iPad.
